The automatic color dispenser is the intelligent core equipment of the colour-preparation field: it fully replaces manual work across the whole colour workflow, from formula generation and colorant metering to finished-product delivery. Its functions are built around three core needs — accuracy, efficiency and standardisation — and cover several key dimensions.
The first is formula management, the foundation of automatic tinting. The machine has a built-in basic formula library covering multiple fields, including colorant systems for different categories such as emulsion paints, inks and decorative paints, and is compatible with mainstream colour cards at home and abroad such as Pantone, national standard colour cards and RAL. It also supports importing, modifying and storing custom formulas, so users can adjust colorant ratios for a specific substrate (wood, metal), usage environment (indoor or outdoor) or a dedicated colour requirement; the system automatically checks the physical compatibility of the colorants in a formula, pre-empting risks such as sedimentation, separation and discolouration, providing a standardised scientific basis for tinting and avoiding formula deviations between operators.
The second is precise metering and proportioning, the heart of colour consistency. The machine uses a precise micro-metering module built on gravimetric or high-precision volumetric technology, capable of milligram-level incremental control of colorant, so that even a special colorant at a 0.1% content can be dispensed accurately. It supports simultaneous multi-component proportioning: several colorants can be injected as needed in one operation, with metering and delivery completed together, eliminating from the source the visual errors, hand-feel deviations and recording mistakes of manual metering, guaranteeing that the colorant ratios of every batch are exactly the same and avoiding colour deviation caused by proportioning errors.
The third is stirring and uniformity control, the key step in eliminating colour spots. The machine is fitted with an adaptive stirring system that automatically adjusts stirring speed, duration and rotation mode according to the colorant type (water-based, solvent-based, high-viscosity powder and so on) and container size (from a 100 ml sample to a 500 L production pail) — for instance, low-speed planetary stirring for high-viscosity wood paints, to avoid the air bubbles that high-speed stirring introduces and which reduce colour saturation. Some models also integrate an in-line uniformity detection module that monitors the colour parameters of the mixture in real time through a colour sensor; if the local colorant concentration is uneven, it automatically stirs again, ensuring the finished colour has no dead corners and no spots.
The fourth is closed-loop colour calibration, the core advantage of intelligent tinting. Connected to a high-precision spectrophotometer, the machine quickly reads the Lab colour parameters of a physical colour sample or a digital colour code, and its built-in colour algorithm automatically calculates the type and amount of colorant to add — a full closed loop of “measure colour, calculate amount, top up, reach target”. This brings manual tinting, which needs 3–5 trial adjustments and leaves a colour difference of ΔE 2–3, down to a single adjustment with ΔE ≤ 1, the industry standard, greatly reducing the reject rate and colorant waste.
The fifth is full-process data management, an important guarantee of traceable production. The machine automatically records every parameter of each tinting run, including formula number, the amount of each colorant, stirring duration and the final colour difference, and generates structured tinting reports. These support local storage and cloud sharing, and can be integrated with a company’s production and quality management systems for full-chain integration of colour data. It also provides operator permission control, colorant low-level warnings and equipment fault alarms, which both facilitates quality traceability in production and lowers the operating threshold and equipment maintenance cost.
In addition, the automatic color dispenser has scenario-adaptation and safety-assist functions. It covers the full range from small-batch sample preparation in the laboratory to batch production on the line, and has a built-in ambient temperature compensation module that adjusts colorant metering parameters to offset the effect of temperature and humidity on colorant viscosity. When changing colours it automatically cleans the pipes, pump body and stirring head to avoid cross-contamination; and a simplified touch-screen interface lets operators get started quickly without complex training, ensuring safe and convenient operation.
